  1. Another good writing blog. I think the discussion on the opening and closing of the essay is very pertinent to fiction. There are techniques that come in useful for all types of writing. The use of the quote as an opening is traditional, although I must admit I always twitch a little when the quote comes from Webster's Dictionary. There are so many wonderful quotations available to writers.

    Here's a a new one taken from Dr. Wayne Dyer's book "Excuses Begone!"

    And this is presented with the idea that many of our attitudes about ourselves stem from destructive viruses that, once established in our minds, have great impact on how we think and behave. All this ties in to how we look at the world and our place in it.

    Interesting reading.
